Specsavers in Newport has announced that Isle Drive Safe will be its chosen charity for 2015. The charity, founded by Neal Staley in 2013, works closely with the emergency services and the local council to improve road safety on the Isle of Wight.

Mr Staley founded the charity after his daughter Evey was killed by a drink and drug impaired driver in August 2012. Evey and her parents were driving out of their drive when they were hit by a car travelling 70mph. Evey suffered fatal injuries and died the next day in hospital while her parents suffered life threatening injuries.

Catherine Kidd, ophthalmic director of Specsavers in Newport, says: ‘When we first heard about the charity and Neal’s story we felt strongly about supporting this worthy cause. It is inspirational to see the work the charity has done so far and we hope our fundraising efforts this year will help the charity to develop further.

‘A member of our team tragically lost a friend in a road traffic accident and she is passionate about supporting the charity. Unless we do something now more innocent lives will be lost as a result of the reckless actions of others.’
