Newbury optician at hand to help Commonwealth competitors

Specsavers' optician in Newbury has been helping the Commonwealth shooting teams look after their eyes.

Gary Alexander was quick to attend to the customer who Northern Ireland shooting administration manager who suffered a retinal detachment and had to undergo an eye operation.

Youngest shooting participant

Mr Alexander’s son, Jack, was the youngest shooting participant in the event, representing the Northern Ireland shooting team and placing 5th in the individual competition.

Mr Alexander has captained and coached Great Britain teams for years and this year went along to support Jack as team manager and ensure the team had effective eye treatment.

He says: ‘While we encourage that everyone attends regular eye tests, it’s particularly important for shooters to take care of their eyes.’

Precision is key

‘When your target is 1,000 yards away, your eyesight needs to be perfect. It’s all about precision and I’ve been making sure I’ve been at hand with my eye kit for Jack and the other competitors.’
