New Year brings top job
A local optician has worked up through the ranks to become the co-owner of her own store.
Lisa Marshall joined Specsavers in Arbroath as principal optometrist in July last year and has now taken the reins as the store's ophthalmic director.
Working through the ranks
Prior to joining the Arbroath team, Lisa worked at Specsavers in Dundee for three years, starting out as a pre-registration optometrist. Store directors Jamie Buchan and Kenny Johnston played a big part in her clinical and business development over those years.
During this time, she became a fully-qualified optometrist and completed an independent prescribing course, enabling her to diagnose and treat some eye conditions that are normally referred to an eye clinic at the closest hospital.
Lisa said: ‘I am thrilled to become a partner in the Arbroath store. It didn't take me long after joining the team here, to realise this is where I wanted to take up a partnership opportunity and I’m looking forward to continuing to getting to know our fantastic customers and helping to ensure we offer the best eyecare advice and customer service possible.’
Mentoring future generations of local optometrists
Lisa heads up a team of seven optometrists at the Abbeygate Centre store and will also mentor four Arbroath pre-registration optometrists over the coming years from the store’s school development programme, which was set up in partnership with Arbroath Academy and High School.
The programme helps to provide quality careers for young people in the town and the first graduate is set to join the store this summer having completed four years at university.
Fellow store director, Jamie Buchan, added: ‘We spotted real potential in Lisa during her time in my Dundee practice and she continued to prove to be an asset when promoted to principal optometrist in Arbroath last summer.
‘Within weeks Kenny and I just knew it was the right choice to put her through the partnership programme and she officially became a partner on New Year’s Day - a fitting way to start 2017.
'Lisa has proven to be a fantastic talent and is really committed to clinical care. I'm delighted to welcome her as my new partner!’
