Two senior appointments have been made at Specsavers Kilmarnock to enhance the service level available to customers – namely Will Lok as Optometrist Director and Fiona Ross as Dispensing Director. They take over from Myra Smith and join current Optometrist Director Martin O’Neill.

Meet Will Lok

Will Lok, originally from Liverpool, started his career with Specsavers at the Glasgow Forge store when he moved to Scotland in 2002.

He graduated from the dispensing course at Glasgow Caledonian University in 2005 and later retrained as an optometrist in 2006. He has since retained an independent prescriber qualification. This enables Will to clinically assess patients to treat and prescribe ocular medications under the NHS for a number of eye conditions.

Will is also Head of Enhanced Optical Services for Scotland and has produced training documents for NHS and pre-reg optometrists across the country.

Will said: ‘Moving to Specsavers in Kilmarnock is a great opportunity for me and gives me the chance to utilise my qualifications and optical experience within a community environment. With my experience and the addition of new technology including an optical coherence tomography (OCT) scan to the store, we’ll be able to offer a more advanced service to customers and help detect treatable eye conditions sooner.’

The OCT scan, which only takes a few seconds, allows an optician to look deeper into the eyes than ever before and it can help to detect macular degeneration as well as glaucoma up to four years in advance.

Meet Fiona Ross

Similarly to Will, Fiona Ross also brings a wealth of experience to the Kilmarnock store with more than 15 years’ service to Specsavers. Fiona is a Dispensing Optician having trained at Glasgow Caledonian University.

Most recently Fiona was General Manager for Glasgow audiology and latterly Regional Development Manager for Scotland.

Fiona, added: ‘I live in Ayrshire so it’s great to be back working locally and for a company I’m proud to be part of. My goal will be to drive audiology at Specsavers Kilmarnock by training the team further and raising awareness of the audiology services we can offer.’

Martin O’Neill, store director at Specsavers Kilmarnock, said: ‘Both Will and Fiona are fantastic additions to our team in Kilmarnock and their appointments mark a new chapter for Specsavers on King Street. I truly believe that their expertise will bolster our team and enhance our professionalism for advanced hearing and optical services.’
