Specsavers Musselburgh has become the first in East Lothian to offer BlephEx, the first and only clinician treatment for blepharitis (a common eyelid inflammation that sometimes is associated with a bacterial eye infection, symptoms of dry eyes or certain types of skin condition).

A first for East Lothian

The store has invested £1000 into the BlephEx machine, a painless procedure performed by an eyecare professional that removes the inflammatory biofilm that leads to chronic lid disease.

The new evolutionary patented hand held machine is used to very precisely and carefully to spin a medical grade micro-sponge along the edge of eyelids and lashes, removing scurf and debris and exfoliating your eyelids.

A word from the store director

Store director Diana Kelly recently became the first East Lothian optometrist to gain her independent prescribing licence that enables her to clinically assess a patient, establish a diagnosis and write an NHS prescription where necessary.

‘I am thrilled the store now offers both independent prescribing and BlephEx treatment for our customers’, says Diana. ‘We are the first opticians in East Lothian to offer these services, which puts the store in a unique position to help meet the needs of people with a range of eye conditions.

We look forward to offering these new services to existing patients and hope it encourages new customers to visit us in-store’.

Appointments can be made for this service as they would an appointment for a regular optical visit.
