Specsavers Musselburgh has raised £615 for local charity Beyond Boundaries East Lothian during a fundraising cycling event in partnership with Xtreme Walkies Charity Challenge.

The staff got on their bike and held a cycling fun day and bake sale, to support optical advisor Karly Watt. Karly successfully completed a gruelling 850 mile bike ride across lceland’s notorious Ring Road with the Xtreme Walkies Charity Challenge Team, to raise vital funds for her chosen charity, Beyond Boundaries.

The challenge

Put to the test, staff cycled 300 miles across two days on a static bike in store provided by Ace Bike Co in Musselburgh, collecting donations from customers and passers-by.

The East Lothian based charity aims to deliver high quality outdoor activities for people aged 16 and over with disabilities and mental health issues.

Specsavers Musselburgh also sponsored the group £500, with the additional money raised during the fundraiser going directly to Beyond Boundaries East Lothian, a total of £1,115.

Additional donations made to the group will be given to numerous other charities including CHAS, SSPCA and Teenage Cancer Trust Scotland.

Extremely proud

Diana Kelly, store director at Specsavers Musselburgh, said: ‘We are extremely proud of Karly and the team for taking on such a difficult challenge and we wanted to support them in every way possible.

‘The team wanted to match Karly’s challenge mile for mile each day during our fundraiser and managed to complete 300 miles which is a huge achievement.’

Vital funding

Steven Nelson, manager of Beyond Boundaries East Lothian (BBEL) said: ‘We are extremely grateful to the fundraising efforts from Specsavers Musselburgh, in not only supporting Karly as she cycled across Iceland, but for spending two days raising additional funds for the charity during their fundraiser.
