A local mum had a Mother’s Day to remember this year as she was crowned winner of an Airdrie and Coatbridge Specsavers competition.

Specsavers were encouraging youngsters to nominate their mum to win a variety of well-deserved gifts and pampering treatments to make this Mother’s Day extra special.

Ciara Pryce, who is in primary 7 at All Saints Primary School, wrote the winning letter to her local opticians listing all the wonderful qualities of her mum and why she deserved to win this prize.

Mum of three Caroline Pryce, who was nominated by her 11 year old daughter, was announced as the winner this week and popped into store to pick up her selection of gifts. Her Mother’s Day treats included several indulgent treatments from local beauticians Beauty Sekrets a beautiful bouquet of flowers from Jack’s Flower Stall, £125 Specsavers voucher and a special Mother’s Day lunch for two at The Georgian Hotel in Coatbridge.

Mother and daughter quality time

Caroline said: ‘Ciara is a fantastic, intelligent caring girl with an enormous imagination - as you can tell from her letter.

‘She did tell me about the competition but to be honest I never thought I would win! I will be sharing my gifts with Ciara and look forward to enjoying some mother and daughter pamper time – and a lovely meal to finish off’.

Overwhelming response

Janice Dornan, optical assistant and in-store merchandiser at Specsavers Airdrie, organised the competition. She said: ‘We were overwhelmed with the response to our Mother’s Day competition this year with a total of 260 entries.

‘We loved reading all the poems and letters as everyone had such lovely things to say about their mums. We have displayed a number of the entries in the shop window to help brighten up the day of passers-by.

‘Well done Ciara and congratulations to our winner Caroline, we hope you enjoy your well-deserved treats.’
