Morriston cake sale sees sweet success
Specsavers staff in Morriston have raised £106 for the national cancer charity, Macmillan, through a bake sale.
Variety of sweet treats
Sarah Gilchrist, an optical assistant at the Woodfield Street store, organised the event with the help from other members of staff. The team baked a variety of sweet treats, from rocky roads to traditional Welsh cakes, which were sold to customers to raise funds as part of Macmillan’s national coffee morning.
The annual event encourages people across the UK to host coffee mornings, inviting guests to bring cakes and sweet treats to help raise funds for the charity’s support groups, online community groups and phone lines.
‘Charity provides vital support’
Simon Smiriglia, manager of Specsavers in Morriston, said: ‘When Sarah suggested doing a bake off for a cause as humbling as Macmillan, we were all more than happy to get involved.
‘At Specsavers, we are committed to supporting charities whenever we can and engaging our customers and members of the community in our fundraising activities, so it was great to see the store busy with people buying our cakes. I was particularly pleased to see that my Malteaser cake went down well with everyone too!’
