The Morpeth opticians raised more than £400 last year for good causes and also collected more than 200 Christmas gifts for the local Mother and Baby Unit at St George’s Park Hospital.

Among its fundraising activity, Specsavers in the town raised £265 for the British Heart Foundation and more than £160 for Guide Dogs.

Going the extra mile to support charities
Store manager, Ronnie Turner, also personally took part in the Great North Run in September and raised £545 in support of autism charity, Springboard.

Fellow members of staff and customers added to Ronnie’s fundraising total by sponsoring him.

Ronnie said: 'We were delighted to support several great causes including the British Heart Foundation last year and hope to build on this throughout 2020 with further fundraising for vital charities.

'Donating so many gifts to our local Mother and Baby Unit was a real highlight of our charity activities in 2019. We hope we helped to make Christmas special for the mums and babies.'
