A monthly social event for the over 65s, Chatterbox, will start in Witney on Thursday 1 October, to coincide with Older People’s Day 2015.

The get-together, which is also supported by Age UK, will take place at The Corn Exchange, Market Square from 9am to 12.30pm on the first Thursday of every month.

Visitors to the event will be able to meet new people and enjoy tea and refreshments. They can also find out more about services available for older people and an expert will be on hand to give IT advice. As part of the celebrations, there will also be live musical entertainment to enjoy.

Cathy Mullen, store director at Specsavers in Witney, said: ‘We’re all looking forward to the first Chatterbox event. We wanted to do something to celebrate 21 years of being part of the town and thought this would be a very fitting way to thank residents for their custom. We hope to see lots of local people attending the event every month. Hopefully, it will make socialising easier for those who may spend a lot of time at home or find it difficult meeting new people.’
