Eye health tip of the month
The sun is shining and the temperature’s rising, so what better way to celebrate than to explore the outdoors?
Everyone knows the essentials needed for a day out in the sunshine – sun cream, water for hydration…but what about your eyes? Store director for East Dereham and Fakenham, Michael Meller, tells us his top tips on how to keep your eyes healthy this summer.
1. Simple but effective
Michael said: ‘The first summer essential is a pair of UV protected sunglasses. The bigger the better. Oversized sunglasses are not only on trend, but they provide eyes with more protection. Look for sunglasses with wrap-around frames and wide lenses that provide 100% UV protection like our Cath Kidston Sun RX and Hugo Boss Orange Sun RX 17 frames.’
2. Stay in the shade
'Always make sure to wear a hat. It will not only protect your head from sunburn but it will create another barrier between your eyes and the sun’s UV rays,' added Michael.
3. Keep an eye on the time
'The sun is strongest between 10am and 3pm. Where possible stay out of the sun at these times and/or keep yourself protected by wearing sunglasses and a hat,' Michael continued.
4. Remove contact lenses
Michael added: 'Everyone wants to jump in the pool when temperatures rise and the sun comes out. If you're going for a swim make sure to remove your contact lenses. If left on they can trap bacteria and microorganisms in your eyes, which can lead to infection. Where possible wear UV-protected goggles. Sunlight reflects off of water and can damage your eyes without you even realising.'
