Staff at Specsavers Wantage have become Dementia Friends so they can better support customers with the condition.

Assistant store manager Michael Buckley and opticial assistant Michelle Exell undertook the training which is run by the Alzheimer’s Society to help people better understand dementia and improve services for sufferers.

A word from Michael

‘This is an area I’m particuarly passionate about’ said Michael.

‘A large number of our customers are affected by the condition, plus some of my family too – so I feel particuarly aware of the need to improve people’s understanding of the illness so that we can offer better care and support for sufferers.’

Dementia Friends training 

The comprehensive training covers all aspects of dementia and discusses how it affects people in different ways. With particular relevance to Specsavers it also describes how senses can be affected, including sight and hearing.
