Specsavers staff in March are proud to say the majority of their staff are qualified as Dementia Friends.
Dementia Friends is an Alzheimer’s Society initiative and helps staff to develop an understanding of dementia and support customers and employees who are affected by the condition.
Speaking about the importance of the qualification, Gemma Ashby said: ‘We believe very strongly in the importance of having our staff trained in dementia care, as we want to provide the best customer service for all of our customers.’
Close to our hearts
Gemma added: ‘The Alzheimer’s Society is a charity that is close to all of our hearts as each of the staff here know someone who has been affected by dementia. Now that we’re all Dementia Friends, we’re hoping to raise awareness and do some fundraising over the next year too.’
The proud staff members who have qualified include – Karin Pickles, store manager; Gemma Ashby, finance and PR manager; Jennifer Campbell ,dispensing consultant; Julie Smith, dispensing consultant; Linsey Broughton, dispensing consultant; Claire Burgess, dispensing consultant; Sally Blake, optical assistant; Lucy Curtis, optical assistant; and Brooke Robinson, optical assistant.
Dementia Friends is a qualification that is completed online and entails watching a series of scenario-based videos.
