Tell us a bit about yourself.

I’m originally from Omagh in Northern Irleand. I completed my optometry degree course at the University of Ulster. I'm a keen athlete and enjoy multiple sports such as golf, cycling and running.

How did you come to run a Specsavers store?

I first worked for Specsavers as a part-time optical assistant in the Omagh store. Following my university course, I completed my professional qualification year at Specsavers in Dunfermline, where I worked for six years.

I then took on a temporary acting director role at the St. Andrews store before joining fellow store director Bridgeen Johnston in Montrose.

Do you wear specs, and if so, what is your favourite style?

I am quite short sighted so I’m usually always wearing either glasses or contact lenses.

I like quite different styles of and colours of frames throughout the year and try to keep up with trends. I tend to favour dark colours and designs from brands like Hugo Boss and Tommy Hilfiger for more formal dinners and events which go really well with suits.

At the moment, I have been switching between the light auburn tones of Karl Lagerfeld’s specs and the brighter French Connection collection for work which allow me to show a bit more of my personality.

When I'm out running or cycling, I wear Uvex sports frames with contact lenses or my prescription sport glasses. We have an extensive range of sports specs and contact lenses as well as solutions for diving masks, skiing masks and swimming goggles.

What does your job at Specsavers involve?

My days are quite varied between conducting eye examinations, contact lens consultations and taking emergency eye appointments. Alongside my optometrist role, I manage the business with Bridgeen and work with our staff to ensure we are providing the best possible service to our customers.

What does an eye test include?

It’s important to build a rapport with the patient before the examination begins which helps to establish any concerns they may have. We use a varied range of testing methods to ensure we conduct a thorough inspection of the eye.

Why is it so important to get your eyes checked regularly?

There are some conditions that do not present any symptoms and can go undetected such as diabetes and high blood pressure. These conditions can often be detected during an eye test meaning the examination is a fantastic indicator to a patients overall health as well as their eye health.

Does your store also offer hearing clinics?

Yes we have a hearing screening machine in store and we have a resident audiologist who conducts fortnightly hearing clinics at the store on Saturdays.

Who should consider getting a hearing test?

We encourage anyone aged 40 years or over or anyone who is experiences problems with their hearing to book an appointment. We also offer hearing protection solutions to local businesses and individuals who require it.

How can patients book an eye or hearing test?

Patients can book an eye or hearing test by calling or visiting the store or booking online.
