Dyfan Jones is store director at Specsavers Caernarfon. Here's a little more information about him, his background, and the Caernarfon store...
Tell us a bit about yourself
I grew up and was educated here in Caernarfon. I'm married and have two children, aged four and six. My interests include spending as much time with the family as possible (which is difficult!) and golf. I'm a member at Caernarfon Golf club.
How did you come to run Specsavers Caernarfon?
After graduating from Cardiff University in 2004 I became a Pre-Reg optician with Specsavers in Llandudno. I then became an employed optician for Specsavers working at the stores in Llandudno, Rhyl and Prestatyn. I was approached by Specsavers in 2011 to open my own store in Caernarfon, and I haven't looked back.
What does your job at Specsavers Opticians involve?
Being a director I am responsible for the day to day running of the store. The majority of my time is spent in the test room examining eyes.
What is the best part of your role?
Meeting new people in the test room and managing a team.
What are the biggest challenges you face in your role?
Because the store is so busy, finding time to complete paper work is a challenge.
Why is it so important to get your eyes checked regularly?
Some eye conditions can progress without the patient being aware of a problem. Glaucoma is a prime example. Early detection is very important.
Does your store also offer audiology?
Yes, we offer hearcare appointments two days a week.
Who should consider getting a hearing test?
We can perform a two minute hearing screening test on anyone. If the screener shows up a deficiency we book an appointment with an audiologist.
How can patients book an eye or hearing test?
Eye tests can be booked online, by phone or in store. A hearing screening test can be performed without an appointment. Full hearing tests can be booked by phone or in store.
