Meet the Director at your local Fulham opticians
For Bryan Edley Chakowa, Specsavers has been a big part of his life, having worked for the company for an impressive 22 years.
A family affair
The 43-year-old, who lives in Kent but travels to Fulham each day to serve his loyal customers, has a strong family background in optics – his wife, son, brother and sister-in-law all work in the trade. Bryan’s uncle gave him his first taste of life in optometry, when he worked part-time at the opticians he ran in Islington whilst studying at university.
Opening the store
In 1995, Bryan qualified as a lab technician at Specsavers in Woolwich where he worked his way up to store manager.
After a short time working in the retail industry, Bryan returned to Specsavers in Wimbledon where he worked as manager for two years, before finally decide to open his store in Fulham with his brother, Ashley.
A people person
Bryan, who was born in Mauritius, said: ‘I love working at the store. Having been there for so long, and having already worked in the Fulham area, I know many of our customers very well.
‘There’s a real sense of community, and people will stop the team and I in the street to have a chat. It’s the interaction with people that I love the most, and the feeling that our team is a family.’
In his spare time, Bryan enjoys walking his two dogs Oscar and Buddy.
