Meet Anum Saleemi, audiology director at Specsavers Sale, Altrincham, Openshaw, Manchester Fort and Manchester Arndale.

How did you come to work at Specsavers store?

I initially worked in the NHS for a short while, then moved on to work for a global hearing aid manufacturer. I was looking to join a business that put the customer at the forefront of what they do, while using the best technology on the market. I come from a background of manufacturing and diagnostics so it was important to work for a company that put clinical excellence first. I found all of this and more at Specsavers.

What does your job at Specsavers involve?

I am the director of the Sale and Manchester Audiology businesses. This involves helping patients treat hearing loss, providing hearing aids and creating a rehabilitation programme for our customers. I also run a small team of audiologists and hearcare assistants, aiming to provide the high-quality hearing service our customers have come to expect.

What is the best part of your role?

Seeing my team make a difference to people’s lives every day. Hearing loss can have such a significant impact on your day to day life, causing real isolation and it is upsetting to see the impact hearing loss can have. However, seeing my team of dedicated clinicians changing people’s lives and supporting our customers to use hearing aids is such a worthwhile and rewarding experience.

Why is it so important to get your hearing checked regularly?

Like with sight, regular hearing checks are so important for ensuring our daily activities are not having a detrimental impact on our hearing. We always encourage early intervention with hearing loss to decrease the likelihood of hearing loss deteriorating and to continue exercising the auditory nerve.

How can patients book a hearing test?

Online, instore, on the phone or pop in and we will be happy to see you!
