Meet the Specsavers Belle Vale store director Adam Ormrod and find out more on what being an optician at Specsavers involves.
Tell us a bit about yourself...
I am an active person - I like many sports such as football, tennis, badminton and golf. My family are very important to me and we all meet up and go out whenever we can.
How did you come to work at Specsavers in Belle Vale?
My first job was at Specsavers when I was 16 years old dispensing and reparing glasses. I learned a lot in this job and it prepared me well for my future. I qualified as an optometrist in 2002 and returned to Specsavers in 2009 to open my new store here at Belle Vale Shopping Centre.
Do you wear specs, and if so, what is your favourite style?
I wear contact lenses mainly and when I want to give my eyes are rest I wear a Gant pair of glasses. They are a timeless classic.
Which frames are the most popular with customers at the moment?
Hugo Boss is very popular with the men given their quality and amazing price. Our own brand Aurora also sells out very quickly within our ladies range.
What does your job at Specsavers Opticians involve?
I mainly examine eyes and fit contact lenses yet as a director I am responsible for health and safety, HR and financial auditing and planning as well.
How long have you been with the company?
In this current role it's 8 years and counting!
What is the best part of your role?
There is nothing better than seeing someone develop and reach their potential and watching the business grow from endeavour and persistence.
Plenty! Yet overcoming these make us stronger.
Why is it so important to get your eyes checked regularly?
Regular eye tests are important as prevention is better than cure. We can manage many sight threatening conditions the earlier they are caught. It is true that on occasions there are some conditions we may not even know are present.
Do you provide hear care at the store?
Yes. Absolutely. Hear care is vital to the members of the community. We do both NHS Hearing Aids which are free by booking via your GP and also have a wide range of excellent value Hearing Aids which start from £495 for a pair including 4 years of servicing and 4 years of batteries.
What additional services do you provide at the store?
We provide Glaucoma Repeat Reading Services, Post Cataract Operative Assessments and Testing for Patients with Learning Difficulties.
