Meet the Derry/Londonderry hear care team
Specsavers on Ferryquay Street is a busy store with 32 staff members including three Store Directors. Whilst Specsavers focus on eye care is well-known, people are often surprised to find out about their extensive hear care expertise.
Dedicated hearing centre
Specsavers Ferryquay Street has two specialised staff to look after hear care. Audiologist Karen Green along with Hear Care Assistant Stacey Elliott. Karen has been with Specsavers for over eight years spending 5 years as an optical assistant before undertaking the Hearing Aid audiology degree at the Angela Ruskin University in Cambridge. Karen has been working for the past three years as an audiologist with Specsavers in Derry / Londonderry. Hear care assistant Stacey Elliott has been with Specsavers in Ferryquay Street for two and a half years and has a level 4 diploma in hear care.
Hearing loss is very common
Karen explains, ‘Hearing loss is surprisingly common, affecting 1 in 6 adults in the UK. It can be a very worrying and isolating condition but the good news is that Specsavers can provide everything needed for better hearing. As well as having a positive outcome for the patient themselves it also makes a huge difference to their families as well.’
Free 3 minute hearing test
‘If you’re not sure whether you have a hearing problem we advise patients to have our free 3 minute hearing check to find out. Then if you need a full hearing test our hearing care professional provides that as well. It’s also free and takes about an hour. We then discuss the results and explain the range of hearing assistance available if that is required.’
Same-day hearing aids
The choice of hearing aids can be overwhelming but at Specsavers Coleraine Joanne and her team help the patient find a solution that best meets his/her needs, lifestyle and budget. In many cases hearing aids can be fitted on the same day as the hearing test. Follow-up appointments and aftercare are all part of the service and are also free of charge for as long as they’re needed.
Regular hearing checks
Regular hearing checks are important so a hearing test is recommended every year for over 40’s and every two years for young people.
