Tell us a bit about yourself

My name is Zoe Morris and I am 33 years old. I currently live on the Wirral with my partner, but I have a very strong family connection with Allerton – it is like my second home! My family originate from here so it feels very natural to work in the town. My Nan was born on Penny Lane, and my Aunt still lives near Calderstones Park which I have fond memories of visiting as a child. My Mum went to school at Booker Avenue Primary and New Heys Comprehensive – which has since been turned into houses.

How did you come to run at Specsavers store ?

I started my optical career at Specsavers on the Wirral at the age of 17. I went on to become a dispensing optician and qualified in 2005 before going on to gain managerial experience. In 2008 I joined the Allerton Specsavers team where I was quickly promoted to Retail manager and gained a huge amount of training and development that prepared me to become a joint venture partner in 2013. I will have been part of the Allerton team for 8 years this month!

Do you wear specs, and if so, what is your favourite style?

I wear specs for driving and at the cinema only as I have a small short sighted prescription. I tend to end up with large square shapes that fit my wide face, and I like neutral tones like beige and brown, or navy and bright blue to match my uniform!

What is the best part of your role?

Without a doubt the best part of my job is the people. Our customers are great, and it is a pleasure to be able to offer them help and advice whenever they need it. The team in store are a pleasure to work with and for that reason I enjoy coming into work every day.

How many members of staff do you have working at your store?

26 and growing!!

Why is it so important to get your eyes checked regularly?

Eye tests are absolutely important for your health because they can detect various other health issues which may otherwise go undetected. Getting your eyes checked regularly is even more important if you drive any form of vehicle as it helps ensure that your vision meets the required standard for the safety of yourself and others.

Does your store also offer hear care?

Yes. We have a dedicated hearing centre with its own customer lounge – complete with TV and magazines! We have a sound proof booth for conducting hearing test and qualified hear care assistant among the retail team. There is an audiologist in store 5 days a week.

Who should consider getting a hearing test?

Anyone who’s family and friends tell them they need one! If your nearest and dearest have noticed then its highly likely it needs attention. Similarly, if you have started to notice yourself straining to hear things, asking people to repeat themselves, or turning the TV up a few notches more than normal then it’s worth your while getting your hearing checked.

How can patients book an eye or hearing test?

Our customers can book in for an eye or hearing test, or contact lens appointment online, on our website, on the phone, or in store!
