Market Harborough team get fundraising in festive spirit
Kind hearted opticians from Specsavers in Market Harborough are focusing on good causes both at home and away in the run up to the festive season.
Members of staff received more than 250 present-filled shoeboxes for the Samaritan’s Purse appeal, Operation Christmas Child, earlier this month, and are continuing their charity support into December by raising much needed funds for Voluntary Action South Leicestershire (VASL).
‘We have supported both Operation Christmas Child and VASL for a long time, and are very proud to do so,’ commented store director, Barry Henning. ‘Christmas is a fun-filled time of year for so many, but we must remember that there are people who aren’t so fortunate. These organisations work hard to improve lives, both for children in disadvantaged countries or carers in the local area, and we will continue to offer our support in the years to come.’
The team is encouraging local residents to join in the fundraising fun on Saturday 3 December for a Winter Wonderland event. Along with an appearance from Santa and his elves, visitors will be treated to games, hot chocolate and mince pies in exchange for donations, and a chance to win a £50 voucher to the Tamworth Snowdome.
Barry added: ‘If you’re not quite in the festive spirit yet, our Winter Wonderland day is sure to do the trick! We’re looking forward to welcoming many of our customers into store at the weekend and to raising as much money as we can for VASL.’
Voluntary Action South Leicestershire is a charity dedicated to improving the lives of people in the Harborough district and the wider community of Leicestershire, and the Operation Christmas Child appeal is one of the biggest initiatives organised by Samaritan’s Purse, with thousands of churches, schools and businesses across the country donating and collecting shoeboxes to be sent overseas.
