Specsavers in Market Harborough has answered a couple’s appeal for help after losing everything in a fire that destroyed their mobile home.

Billy and Susan Wild have lived in the area for more than 12 years.

A retired circus act couple, they were best known as one of the country’s top knife-throwing and Wild West duos, working for circuses including the Robert Brothers and Gerry Cottle.

Local appeal

The couple made an appeal for help in their local paper, which was soon spotted by Specsavers staff.

‘None of us can imagine what it must be like to lose everything – all of their belongings have been lost,’ said store director, Barry Henning. ‘As soon as I read what had happened to Billy and Susan, I knew that we could do something to help. We will be covering the cost of brand new glasses for Susan, and we will also be acting as a collection point for donations.’

Any local residents wishing to help can now visit Specsavers with donations, be it physical items for the couple to rebuild their home or cash donations to buy new things.

Barry adds: ‘I’d like to encourage people in the local area to come together and give what they can to help a couple who has been part of our community for so many years.’
