A Wolverhampton local has been chosen from thousands of proud glasses wearers as a finalist for Specsavers’ Spectacle Wearer of the Year.
Marie Ryan-Griffiths, 47, from Wolverhampton, could follow in the footsteps of last year’s Award winner Shane Haron, and take home £10,000 while also having the chance to mingle with the stars at the annual Spectacle Wearer of the Year Awards.
Glasses wearers across the UK and Republic of Ireland have been showing off their specs style by sharing their selfies online throughout the spring and summer.
Marie was invited to visit her local Specsavers store in Wolverhampton to receive a bottle of champagne, a certificate and a £150 glasses voucher.
‘I was thrilled when I found out I’d made it through as a regional finalist,’ explained Marie. ‘I entered and made it this far a couple of years ago, so I’m really hoping to make it to the finals in London this year.
‘I get so many positive comments on my glasses, even from people who pass me in the street. When I saw Spectacle Wearer of the Year was running again this year I thought "someone needs to represent us 40-something ladies, why not me," and here I am!’
A word from the store director
Hardip Bahia, store director at Specsavers Wolverhampton, added: ‘It’s fantastic to have a local regional finalist and the whole store team know Marie as a lovely customer - so we’re really pleased for her. She really shows off the funky frames we have at Specsavers and she’s a great ambassador for owning your style. We all have our fingers crossed she makes it to the big final!’
The awards were launched by Strictly Come Dancing star and TV personality Oti Mabuse earlier this year. If she triumphs in her category, Marie will meet Oti and rub shoulders with many other celebs at the glitzy awards ceremony at London’s 8 Northumberland Avenue in October.
There are eight categories including a social media winner voted for by the public. All category winners will win a VIP makeover, with one overall winner taking home the ultimate accolade in specs wearing.
