A pair of Specsavers opticians from Teignmouth participated in this year’s London Marathon to raise funds for Age UK, who aim to improve later life for the elderly by providing advice, services, products, training and research.
Specsavers store director, Simon Simmonds and optometrist, Emma Holdey, needed to juggle their rigorous training regimes with fundraising for the charity to raise the £2,000 required to enter. However, with the full support of their colleagues, they far exceeded their goals by holding a different fundraising event every Saturday until the actual race day on 21 April.
Simon explained: ‘Emma and I are both avid runners and we have always wanted to participate in the London Marathon. Age UK only had a couple of places left so we snapped them up and are now dedicated to exceeding the £2,000 we need to raise with the help of our colleagues and customers.’
Emma, added: ‘Other than being exhausted by the training, I was very excited to participate in such a prestigious race. I hope I did both the charity and Teignmouth proud!’
