Specsavers Maidstone is celebrating National Apprenticeship Week this year (February 3-9) with not one but two apprentices as part of the team at the Week Street store.
Abi and Libby both started on the apprenticeship scheme with Specsavers in September last year. Part of the team Abi initially joined the team as a weekend member of staff in January last year but applied for the scheme as she was drawn to a career in store – where her mum also works. Libby had worked part-time elsewhere in the retail sector and joined the scheme after finishing her A’ levels.
The theme for National Apprenticeship Week this year is ‘Look Beyond’, encouraging young people, their parents and teachers, and employers to celebrate the diversity and talent that apprenticeships bring to communities across the country.
Specsavers offer a wide variety of apprenticeships, and they are open to people of any age. With around 400 roles going to be available across the country in 2020, an apprenticeship can lead to a lasting career in store.
A word from the store director
Sanjay Patel, store director in Maidstone, said: ‘We are delighted to have Abi and Libby with us, and are really pleased that they are enjoying their time with us. Both really appreciate the way the scheme gives them classroom learning, alongside buddying in store and solo work which builds their independence.
‘They are both doing really well, and support each other along the way which is lovely to see. We love having them with us so much we have even decided to recruit a third apprentice really soon, so it has been a massive success story. Long may it continue.’
