Specsavers in Magherafelt provided both eye and hearcare advice to senior citizens in the Ballyronan area at an event designed to mark Fall’s Prevention Week, June 2014.

The event, organised by the Home Accident Prevention Officer, Laura Young, from Magherafelt District Council was held in Ballyronan Community Centre. This event was attended by a number of healthcare experts, including Brian O’Kane, director of the Specsavers store in Magherafelt.

Regular attendance

Qualified optometrist, Mr O’Kane, along with the team at the Main Street store, often speaks at events within the Magherafelt area.

He said: ‘I feel it is essential to provide advice and information to the local community on the importance of looking after both their hearing and their eye sight. ‘Additionally, this provides us with an opportunity to let people know about the services that we offer in store, and advise them on the fantastic optical offers that we are currently running.

Free hearing tests

‘We tested many at the senior citizens event with our hearing screener which we had brought along, and which can indicate whether or not the patient needs to make an appointment and come in store for a full hearing test.

‘As a result we have booked in many for appointments over the summer months including eyecare appointments.’
