London Marathon fundraising in aid of RNIB
An Ipswich optical expert is getting set to run the London Marathon this weekend in the name of charity.
Fundraising above and beyond
Gale Baxter, customer service advisor at the Ipswich store, will don her running shoes to tackle the gruelling 26.2 mile course which starts in Greenwich and ends on The Mall in aid of the Royal National Institute of Blind People (RNIB).
Gale is running her first marathon and set out to raise £2,000 for the charity, which supports people affected by sight loss. Having raised more than £3,000 she has already smashed her target ahead of the event.
A word from Gale
Speaking about her challenge, Gale said: ‘I am so excited to take part in the London Marathon. I’ve run half marathons in the past but never a full one, so it’s going to be quite a challenge.
‘The team has been a fantastic support and we’ve hosted various fundraisers including a dress up day at Halloween, face painters at Christmas, a sponsored bike ride outside the store on a static bike, and a quiz night.
‘I’d love to complete the marathon in four and half hours but you never know what will happen on the day. Ultimately I’m proud to be raising funds for such a great cause and I’d like to thank staff and the community in Ipswich who have donated and supported me throughout my training.’
In store marathon
Staff at the store will, this weekend, host their own London Marathon in store dressing in running gear, wearing medals and staging a start/finish line in support of Gale.
If you’d like to donate to the RNIB you can do so via Gale’s Virgin Money Giving page.
