Local swim team, the Under 13’s Peanuts Round 3 Squad were the first recipients of a new award recognising team spirit and working together to achieve success at their annual club awards night earlier this month.
Why did the team win the award?
The ‘Specsavers team of the Year Award’ was presented to the squad because of what Bushey Amateur Swimming Club Chair Caroline Presland said was a great show of ‘enthusiasm and competitiveness in what was for some their first open gala against other teams’.
New sponsorship for Specsavers Watford
Specsavers Watford has recently taken out a two-year sponsorship deal with Bushey Amateur Swimming Club, and store directors Aftab and Kaneez Sham attended on the night to present the award themselves.
In addition to sponsoring the award, the funding has also been put towards new kit for the swimming teams, coach costs for trips to swim meets, and the cost of training new swimming teachers.
Bushey Amateur Swimming Club is a small club which offers those aged 6 upwards the opportunity to improve their swimming and welcomes new members of all abilities. The club is primarily based at Bushey Grove Leisure Centre and competes in county swimming leagues and other local galas, but also holds a number of social events throughout the year.
A word from the store director
‘We’re always looking for ways to help support the local community, and when this sponsorship opportunity came up with the swimming club, we jumped at it’, says Aftab.
‘We thought this was a fitting award to sponsor, as it fits in well with our ethos at Specsavers Watford. It’s important for us to work as a cohesive team to give our customers the best service we can.
‘I was honoured to be invited along with Kaneez to the awards night to present this award to a very deserving team. Congratulations to all the squad members who received it!’
