Local spec wearer makes semi-finals
A STYLISH specs wearer from Weston-super-Mare has been selected from hundreds of people across the region as a semi-finalist in the Specsavers’ Spectacle Wearer of the Year competition.
Jacqueline Powell, a Winscombe local, entered herself into the contest after spotting it on Facebook numerous times. Jacqueline, 45, has two teenage children and spends her time looking after her family of four, baking and reading. Previously working as a personal stylist, she also has a keen interest in all things fashion and makeup, which is evident in her stylish specs.
‘I thought someone was playing a practical joke on me when I found out I was a regional semi-finalist,’ she says. ‘I was so surprised but am so pleased I entered the competition. I have been wearing glasses for the last three years and I think it’s very important to wear them with confidence and flair. My glasses are a part of who I am and I think they are a must-have accessory that compliments any outfit.’
One step closer
During a visit to her local Specsavers, 75 High Street, Jacqueline was awarded a bottle of champagne, a certificate and a £150 voucher and is now in with a chance of winning £10,000 along with a luxury holiday for two to New York and a glasses wardrobe from Specsavers worth £1,000.
Store director Michelle Trego comments: ‘It’s lovely to see such a deserving candidate reach this stage of the competition and we would like to send our best wishes to Jacqueline. She is very stylish and we are all hoping she goes through to the final!’
The competition has five age categories – 16-24, 25-34, 35-44, 45-59 and 60+. All age category winners will win a VIP makeover and a trip to London for the awards evening, with one overall winner taking home the ultimate prize.
