A Romford girl has been chosen from more than 18,000 people across the country to be named as a grand finalist at the final of the Specsavers annual Spectacle Wearer of the Year.
Kemi Quadri, 23, will be attending a star-studded awards ceremony in London on Tuesday 6 October, where she could win £10,000 and a luxury holiday in the Bahamas, as well as a chance to mingle with the stars at the 20th anniversary of the celebration of Specs wearing.
Glasses wearers have been showing off their specs style by sharing their selfies online and entering in stores across the UK and Republic of Ireland.
Kemi won the 16-24 age category to book her place in the final and was recently invited to the Specsavers store, located at 90 South Street, to receive a bottle of champagne, a certificate and a £150 glasses voucher.
Andrew Aiston, Specsavers Romford store director, says: ‘It’s incredible that Kemi has made it through to the Grand Final and could go on to be crowned the Spectacle Wearer of the Year. We are all extremely proud that one of our customers has made it this far and we have no doubt she will do Romford proud on the night.
‘The Spectacle Wearer of the Year competition is a great opportunity to remind people that glasses can make an ordinary look extraordinary. We hope that this competition will continue to empower glasses wearers in Romford and give confidence to stylish specs wearers across the UK.’
Finalist, Kemi Quadri, says: ‘‘I think of myself as being quite a confident person but I think there’s always ways you can boost your confidence. That’s why I decided to enter the competition. It is an honour to be at the Grand Final and the support from my family and the local community has been overwhelming.’
The awards were launched by Spice Girls singer and Heart FM DJ Emma Bunton earlier this year. The celeb-packed awards ceremony is set to take place at London’s 8 Northumberland Avenue on Tuesday 6 October where one winner will receive £10,000, plus a week’s holiday for two in the Bahamas courtesy of Atlantis Paradise Island and a wardrobe of specs to suit every style.
