Local Retford golfer tees up
Retford-born golfing talent, Ben Smith, is able to continue living the dream following a successful fundraising event at Retford Golf Club.
With support from Retford Specsavers, Ben Smith, who is 23, was able to raise a total of £3,000 which will go towards funding his cross country tour to compete against the UK’s best golfing talent.
Specsavers in Retford is one of Ben’s main sponsors and proudly supports him at his fundraising events in a bid to help him reach his ambition of becoming a regular face on the European Tour circuit.
Retford store director Karen Allan said: ‘Sponsoring Ben has been a huge pleasure for each and every member of the team here at Specsavers. We recognise the importance of supporting people from our local community and ensuring they have every chance to make their dreams a reality.
‘As a result of Ben’s success, we have decided to continue being his main sponsor whilst monitoring his eye health so he can continue playing to a high standard. His next eye test is already in the diary.’
Ben said: ‘The fundraising event at Retford Golf Club was a huge success. The weather was on our side, with plenty of sunshine and little to no wind, so each of the 25 teams had the perfect playing conditions.
‘I’d like to say a huge thanks to Karen who really went the extra mile to make the event such a success. She was on hand for the full day to give out bottles of water on the first tee, helping to make sure everyone stayed hydrated.
‘Each of the teams put in a superb effort, putting on their best game face, helping me raise as much as possible. A huge thanks to everyone who came along to support me.’
