The Specsavers Swansea team has welcomed three new directors to the fold, who will oversee and drive the day-to-day business activity.
Decades of experience
Robert Whiskerd joins as the store’s new retail director, while Lyndsay Hewitt and Philip Jones take the helm as ophthalmic directors at the Kingsway-located practice.
Using their combined 53 years’ retail and optical experience, the trio will lead a strong and established team following the retirement of former store director Stephen Jones in February this year.
Mr Whiskerd joins the store’s senior management team having spent four years working with Specsavers, first as a retail development consultant in 2015 before moving on to become a regional relationship manager.
Commenting on the appointments, he says: ‘I think I can speak for the three of us when I say we’re all excited to begin this next step in our careers. I’m looking forward to working alongside Lyndsay and Philip and building upon the solid reputation Stephen Jones established for the business.’
Ms Hewitt began her career at Specsavers Swansea in 2010 as a pre-reg optometrist, working her way up the ladder to the position of principal optometrist and now to her new role as ophthalmic director. Ms Hewitt also works for the Local Health Board as an optometric advisor where she supports collaborative working between primary and secondary care in the area.
Ms Hewitt says: ‘This new senior management team is the next step in our ongoing goal to provide the very best care and treatment for our customers in Swansea. As a brand, we ensure that our patients and the community are at the heart of what we do, which is why I’m thrilled to take on this new role.’
‘A formidable team’
Dr Jones joins the team from an independent opticians and has a background in teaching university students. He and Ms Hewitt have taken directorship of the store after completing Pathway – a Specsavers-own recruitment programme that tests and trains individuals with the aim of helping them to develop the necessary skills to become a store partner.
The three directors will now manage the day-to-day operations of the Specsavers Swansea store.
Dr Jones adds: ‘We already have plans to put our own stamp on the business, with a full refurbishment planned for June. I’m looking forward to seeing the completed work. We have a bright future ahead of us, with mine and Lyndsay’s optical knowledge and Rob’s retail experience, I think we’re going to make a formidable team.’
John Perkins, joint group CEO Specsavers, says: ‘We wish Lyndsay, Philip and Robert the best of luck in their new roles; their combined experience will no doubt help us find new ways of providing exceptional care to customers, not only in Swansea but across the country.’
