A staff member from Specsavers has recently completed the Edinburgh marathon, raising a three figure sum for Guide Dogs UK.
Katie Blakely, senior manager at Specsavers in Ashington and Cramlington, has generated £882.58 in sponsorships for the charity following her recent completion of the gruelling marathon.
Raising funds for a good cause
Katie said: ‘I am thrilled to have completed my first ever marathon and so delighted to have raised almost £900 for charity. I would like to thank everyone for their very kind donations including my friends and family and the customers from Specsavers in Ashington and Cramlington who generously supported me.
‘Between both stores, we actively support Guide Dogs UK each year as we know the massive difference its work makes in changing people’s lives. I personally like to set my challenge each year to raise money for the charity, as it feels wonderful to say I have helped in some way.’
About the charity
Guide Dogs UK provides blind or partially sighted people with a guide dog to help improve their quality of life. It costs just under £55,000 to train and support a guide dog partnership.
Money raised for the charity not only helps to train future guide dogs, but also allows staff to work closely with the new owners and provide them with all the essential items they will need and financial assistance to cover food and veterinary bills.
