Local MP visits Specsavers in New Malden
Specsavers in New Malden was delighted to welcome James Berry, MP for Kingston and Surbiton, for a tour of their store and an eye examination in October.
Meeting the director
Dr Ahmed Sivardeen was on hand to conduct a comprehensive eye examination and discuss his role as Chairman of the Local Optical Committee in Kingston, Richmond and Twickenham - a body that represents over 40 practices in the area. Dr Sivardeen explained the challenges the nation faces with an aging population and the crucial role that opticians play in saving sight. Millions of pounds is spent each year in the UK to treat sight-lost conditions and some can easily be prevented with regular sight tests.
Supporting our message
During James Berry's appointment, Dr Sivardeen discussed the importance of regular eye examinations, particularly during the winter months when visibility for local drivers is more challenge. Dr Sivardeen explained how the store has supported local communities over the years, offering free high visibility jackets to children and is delighted to have his support. Mr Berry has offered to assist the store with approaching a local school to further promote this important cause.
