Apprentice has sights set on career development
Ambitious local Brandon Holman, aged 17, has joined Specsavers’ one-year apprenticeship programme, the UK’s biggest government-accredited scheme.
The scheme is open to anyone over the age of 16 and requires no previous optical experience. Those that complete it become qualified optical assistants with the chance of full-time employment at Specsavers.
Apprentice, Brandon, said: ‘After leaving college an apprenticeship programme was exactly what I was looking for. I’ve found Specsavers in Teignmouth a great environment to learn and everyday there is something new to experience.
‘Working here in Teignmouth Specsavers has really built my confidence and the qualifications I receive at the end will set me up for the future.’
Investing in the future of the south west
Specsavers Teignmouth store director, Michael Todd, added: ‘Brandon is a great addition to the team and has shown a real keenness to learn and to continue working with us at the end of the apprenticeship.
'I’d definitely encourage more businesses to support young people in the South West to show them the opportunities that are right here on their doorstep.’
Some 180 Specsavers apprentices are due to graduate this year and there will be at least 150 new apprenticeship vacancies.
The apprenticeships scheme has been running for just over two years and 90% of the apprentices take on full-time positions within Specsavers.
