Staff at Specsavers Gorseinon have been raising young athletes’ awareness of the importance of eye health in sport, and hopefully inspiring a few future opticians in the process, by organising interactive sessions for them in-store.
Common conditions demonstrated
The team recently invited junior members of the Pontarddulais Football Club into its High Street store, where they were able to experience what it would be like to have common eye conditions by trying on simulation spectacles. One player also tried out the XX machine and had a photo taken of the back of his eye.
The 15-year-olds learned about the importance of eye health in sport from senior optical staff, as well as the various optical and audiology roles available, while learning more about key optical equipment.
As Specsavers in Gorseinon sponsors the team, each player has a Specsavers-branded kit for the season.
Importance of eye health
‘It’s great to see youngsters have such enthusiasm when it comes to keeping fit and we’re delighted to sponsor them,’ store manager, Elizabeth Berrell says.
‘Good eye health is imperative for optimal sports performance and wearing the right protection for your eyes, if needed, is key to keeping them healthy.
‘We are passionate about building awareness of kids’ eye health and we hope our interactive session achieved that.’
