Stand-up comedian, James Adenrele from Conniburrow has been named this year’s Spectacle Wearer of the Year at what has become dubbed the Oscars for specs wearers.
The 27 year-old received the accolade at a star-studded event hosted by Bradley Walsh in London. He was chosen by a panel of expert judges and was handed the award by former Spice Girl and queen of the airwaves Emma Bunton, who kicked off the campaign earlier this year.
James wins a luxury trip for two to the beautiful Bahamas staying at the Atlantis Paradise Island as well as a whopping £10,000 cash prize and £1,000 glasses wardrobe from Specsavers, after being named the overall winner. Having been presented his category winning trophy earlier in the evening by Sarah Harding, James was then back on stage to receive the ultimate prize, beating the six other finalists to the post.
James says big thank you to mum and sister
James said: ‘Attending the star-studded event felt like a prize in itself, so to go on and win Spectacle Wearer of the Year was amazing and very overwhelming. I am absolutely delighted to have won. ‘I have decided to give the Bahamas holiday to my mother and sister. I owe them everything and this is my way of saying thank-you for their support.’
Held at 8 Northumberland Avenue in London, the awards were attended by countless specs-wearing stars including Louis Walsh, who helped judge the finalists, and Made in Chelsea’s Oliver Proudlock, Lucy Watson and Stephanie Pratt. TOWIE star and blogger Ferne McCann, Joey Essex, Brian McFadden, Vogue Williams, Twiggy, Vicki Michelle, Ferne McCann and Lydia and Lucy Mecklenburgh were also in attendance. Girls Aloud’s Sarah Harding performed a DJ set to round off the evening.
