Staff at Specsavers in Llanelli have supported World Book Day by dressing up as their favourite literary characters.
Members of the team, led by Gill Phillips, store manager of Specsavers in Llanelli, got into the spirit of the day by dressing up as popular literary characters from books such as Alice in Wonderland, Winnie the Pooh and Harry Potter.
World Book Day is a celebration of authors, illustrators, books and reading.
Organised by UNESCO, it’s the biggest celebration of its kind and marked in more than 100 countries across the world.
The overall aim of the day is to encourage children to explore the pleasure of reading.
Importance of reading
Matthew Harvey, director of Specsavers in Llanelli, said: ‘World Book Day is a fantastic way to engage with children to encourage them to read. We were really excited to get behind the initiative this year with staff welcoming children and members of the community in their best fancy dress characters to mark the occasion.’
