The online training initiative run by the Alzheimer’s Society covers all aspect of dementia and outlines how it can affect each person differently and how senses can be affected including sight and hearing.
Understanding and empathy
‘As a team, we really enjoyed the training sessions and they gave us an insight as to how people with dementia and their families feel. All the staff now have a greater understanding of dementia and are more empathetic with our patients who have the condition,’ explained Natalie Latham, store director.
Staff wear Dementia badges
Dementia trained staff are recognised as ‘Dementia Friends’ and wear a badge on their uniforms to demonstrate their awareness and knowledge to customers.
