Motorists were able to check whether their eyesight was good enough for driving at this year’s Lincolnshire Show, thanks to the team from Specsavers in Gainsborough, who were on hand to offer free vision screenings.
Staff carried out free vision screeninsg for motorists to highlight how important good vision is for driving. Visitors to the Drive Safe Trailer at the show were also given free ice scrapers and air fresheners.
Jacqui Nichol, store director of Specsavers in Gainsborough, says: ‘We’re delighted to have taken part in the Lincolnshire Show and to be able to bring our Drive Safe message to as many people as possible in the county.
‘Driving when your eyesight is below the legal standard means you are a risk to yourself and other motorists. It is imperative we continue to raise awareness of the importance of having regular eye examinations.’
The Specsavers team also offered free specs MOTs to visitors to the Drive Safe trailer, as well as offering to check visitors’ hearing thanks to a state-of-the-art hearing screener.
Specsavers has campaigned throughout the past decade for legislation to be introduced to make eye examinations a compulsory part of the driving test. Working with police constabularies across the UK and national road safety charity Brake, Specsavers has toured motor shows and county shows nationwide with its Drive Safe campaign trailer to screen drivers’ vision.
