Lichfield optometrist takes on Yorkshire Three Peaks Challenge
An optometrist from Specsavers Lichfield has swapped specs for hiking shoes as she prepares to take on the Yorkshire Three Peaks Challenge on 2 July in aid of Acorns Children’s Hospice.
The Specsavers team is supporting colleague Talisa Patel as she trains for the mountainous challenge, encouraging donations and even organising a cake sale in the store on Saturday 11 June. Delicious treats will be available throughout the day for a small donation to Acorns.
Speaking about her training, Talisa commented: ‘I’ve been working really hard to get ready for my challenge. I know it’s going to be tough, both physically and mentally, so I want to be as prepared as possible.’
'I’m excited to be raising money for such a great charity. Acorns do amazing work and I hope that we can add to my growing fundraising total after the cake sale!’
A mountainous challenge
The Yorkshire Three Peaks Challenge is a 24 mile-long route and takes participants over the Pen-y-ghent, Whernside and Ingleborough peaks, forming part of the Pennine range within the Yorkshire Dales National Park. The challenge includes a total ascent of 5,200ft (1,585m) and is typically completed within 12 hours.
Store director, Praful Patel, added: ‘I’d encourage our customers to join us on 11 June and indulge in a tasty treat to raise some money for Acorns Children’s Hospice! We’re all proud of Talisa for taking on such a demanding challenge and wish her all the best with her training and, of course, with completing the challenge itself.’
