Specsavers customer Pauline Moore celebrated her 60th birthday by winning a regional semi-finalist award in this year’s Specsavers’ Spectacle Wearer of the Year competition. Pauline who has worn glasses since she was 18, is a librarian with the Royal College of Nursing where specs are an essential accessory for her work.
Pauline spotted the Specsavers competition on facebook and thought why not give it a go – you are only young once! Pauline reckoned it would be super craic and was delighted to get the call and make a visit to Specsavers flagship store in Victoria Square close to her Belfast based office.
Loves Kate Silverton’s style
‘I have lots of pairs of glasses and particularly like to co-ordinate different specs with a variety of outfits. I especially admire the specs style of Kate Silverton and I was actually lucky enough to meet her in person and she was as lovely in real life as she is on the small screen.’
Angela Shaw from Specsavers Victoria Square presented Pauline with her Spectacle Wearer of the Year prizes including a bottle of champagne and a £150 eye care voucher.
Pauline originally lived in Newtownabbey and was a Specsavers customer at the Abbeycentre store before moving to Castlerock in Co Londonderry. Pauline is an avid buyer of new glasses and gives her old pairs to charity.
Starry awards night
Regional semi-finalists go forward to the next stage of the competition and Pauline could be in with a chance of heading to London on 11 October and winning the top prize of £10,000 cash, a trip of a lifetime to New York and a glasses wardrobe worth £1000. Stardust celebs attending the gala awards evening include former Pussycat Doll Kimberly Wyatt who launched the competition earlier this year.
For each Spectacle Wearer of the Year entry, Specsavers is donating £1 to charity Kidscape adding to the £300,000 the campaign has raised for the charity over the last 6 years.
