Lewes store gives out hearing protection

21 October, 2014

The hearing centre in Lewes is holding a week-long awareness drive to highlight the problem of age-related hearing loss, as the town gears up for Bonfire Night.

Free hearing protection

From Wednesday 29 October, the store will be giving out free hearing plugs at the store and offering advice to the local community. The team will also give out the plugs at the Lewes Bonfire Night Celebrations on Wednesday 5 November.

Hearing aid audiologist John Marsden says: 'Bonfire Night in Lewes is a treat for the senses, with colourful visual displays and tasty, hot snacks. We want people to be aware, however, that fireworks can reach 150 decibels -  equivalent to the noise of a jumbo jet taking off. As hearing specialists, we feel it is our responsibility to help people better protect themselves from the effects of exposure to loud noises, and that is why we are taking action.’
