Larne spec wearer announced a semi-finalist
Sarah Gaw, a receptionist from Larne has reached the semi-final stages in this year’s Specsavers’ Spectacle Wearer of the Year competition. Sarah Gaw, who recently celebrated her 30th birthday, entered the competition after she spotted it on Facebook.
Commenting on her award Sarah said, ‘I love wearing glasses and don’t really feel complete without them. However, I didn’t always love them. I started wearing glasses when I was 9 years old and, at that time, was the only person in my class and in my family who wore them. Added to that I had a nickel allergy so I had the large plastic glasses which looked awful and I was teased at school for wearing them. However, as I got older, I grew in confidence and really began to enjoy wearing glasses and trying different styles.’
Champagne and new specs
Sarah picked up her Spectacle Wearer of the Year prizes at Larne Specsavers store in the town’s Main Street. She received a bottle of champagne, a certificate and a £150 voucher and is now in with a chance of winning £10,000 along with a luxury holiday for two to New York and a glasses wardrobe from Specsavers worth £1,000.
Congrats from Larne store
Larne store director Deirdre McAree said she’s delighted for Sarah; ‘It’s great to have someone from Larne as a semi-finalist in this competition. This is now the second time the Larne store has had a regional finalist which is fantastic. Everyone from the Larne store wishes Sarah the very best of luck for the competition.’
Pussycat Doll awards ambassador
The awards were launched by former Pussycat Doll, Kimberly Wyatt, earlier this year. If Sarah triumphs in her age category, she could meet Kimberly and other stars at the celeb-packed awards ceremony in London in October.
