Keeping it in the family
There are probably lots of things you know about Specsavers: a successful nationwide business, great designer frames at great prices, and fantastic high-tech innovation. But unknown to some is that each Specsavers store is a Joint-Ventureship Partnership where directors run, grow and manage their own stores.
The story behind Godalming's new store
Mark Dunn is the retail director at Godalming and is thrilled to be supported by his daughter who joins as the manager. Rebekah Dunn has followed Specsavers internal training programme, and has 'earned her stripes' working her way up the ladder at previous Specsavers stores.
Mark keeps it in the family
Rebekah isn't the only child of Mark's to follow his career path. In fact, his son always works for Specsavers at another branch.
Mark says: 'It is always great to see your children succeed professionally. Rebekah has worked very hard to reach a managerial role in her 20s and it is a delight to work with her.'
Making it work
He adds: 'There is a real passion for the business to succeed when family members are at the helm. In fact, let's not forget that Specsavers is very much a family business as it was established by husband and wife duo, Doug and Dame Mary Perkins.
'The advantages are there for the taking - but there can be some disadvantages! The main challenge we have is not talking 'shop' outside of work, but together, we are defining our own rules and so far, we are enjoying every minute.'
