Optometrist Colm Campbell has joined the Craigavon store as a new store director following a major £100K investment in new optical and hearcare patient facilities and services.

The Rushmere Shopping Centre based Specsavers store has been taken over by optometrist Michael Kennedy and dispensing optician JP Rice who have owned and managed Specsavers in Portadown since 2007. The recruitment of ophthalmic director Colm Campbell is part of the roll out of a significant expansion programme to meet the needs of an increasing patient base in the Craigavon region.

New facilities

The two storey unit now comprises five testing rooms including a dedicated hearcare room and the team also plan to install an additional sound proof booth. Specsavers Craigavon now offers audiology clinics twice a week combined with the support of two full-time hearcare specialists.

The store’s optical testing rooms are fully equipped with the latest eye care technology including digital retinal cameras and Digital Precision Eyecare – a cutting edge way of selecting and fitting customers’ spectacles using imaging software on tablet devices.

Colm Campbell

Colm Campbell graduated in optometry from the Ulster University at Coleraine and completed a pre-reg year at Specsavers in Magherafelt before moving to Newcastle upon Tyne and doing a two year stint with Specsavers in the North East. Colm returned to Northern Ireland working for Specsavers in Magherafelt for over two years before taking up his position with Specsavers Craigavon. Colm’s appointment takes the total workforce at the store to 31.

Serving the local community

JP Rice, Dispensing Director at Specsavers Craigavon said, ‘We’re delighted to combine our resources and expertise at both Craigavon and Portadown and bring the highest level of ophthalmic care to the surrounding region and expand our range of clinics and services including audiology, children’s eyecare and contact lenses.

‘I’ve been part of Specsavers since 1999 and this new expansion and job recruitment reaffirms our commitment to the Lurgan and Portadown area and beyond and we’d like to thank the local community for their continued loyalty and support to date.’
