In aid of National Road Safety Week, Specsavers in Ilkley has pledged to keep local school children safe by donating high visibility vests to Ashlands Primary School.
Children at Ashlands Primary School were presented with 100 vests by a representative from Ilkley Specsavers as the optician has launched a campaign to increase the safety of local children when out and about, by making it easier for motorists to spot them.
A word from the director
Roger Copely, Store director at the Specsavers store in Ilkley, commented: ‘At this time of year with the dark mornings and nights, combined with the winter weather, it can be difficult for motorists to see pedestrians and dusk is particularly hazardous when the children are walking home from school.
‘With this in mind we decided that, as part of Road Safety Week, we wanted to help increase the safety of children in Ilkley by providing a local school with high visibility vests.
Free glasses and eye tests for U16s
Roger continued: ‘Our safety initiative also aims to raise awareness of the free glasses and eye tests we offer to anyone under the age of 16. It is important to make sure that children have regular eye tests as an undetected problem in the early stages of development could lead to something more severe in the long term.’
