Specsavers in Ilkeston, which has suspended all routine testing, is still open to help those who need urgent or essential eye care, including key workers.
The team at Specsavers on Bath Street are focusing their efforts on helping those who need vital eye and hearing care during the COVID-19 pandemic. Staff have already helped a local NHS worker who was struggling to use their specs under their visor – the store came to the rescue by advising on fitting contact lenses and dispatching the right prescription to their home.
A word from the store director
‘I’m super proud of my team who, despite the challenges, remain in high spirits knowing that they are contributing to help ease the NHS during this COVID-19 pandemic,’ comments Specsavers Ilkeston store director, Krishna Parmar.
‘Our optometrists are also conducting a triage system via phone, video call and email so that they can help diagnose, refer or arrange to see customers with urgent eye care needs. We’ve already helped a customer who had a metal foreign body in their eye and referred a number of urgent cases including a retinal detachment, corneal ulcer abrasion and a branch retinal artery occlusion, which could have led to a stroke or even death.’
