Smashing 10k glasses donation milestone
Specsavers in Hounslow is celebrating after collecting more than 10,000 pairs of unwanted glasses from the local community, which has helped to improve the eye health of people in developing countries over the last 20 years.
Vision Aid Overseas
The store passed the milestone this month after sending a box containing 203 specs to Vision Aid Overseas, an international sight charity benefiting those in need across Africa.
The business has been supporting the charity for the past two decades by encouraging residents to drop their old and unused glasses in a collection box at the front desk.
Vision Aid Overseas collects the glasses every three months and recycles them, with proceeds generated from the reusable parts used to establish vision centres, train local eyecare professionals and provide outreach services to isolated communities in Africa.
Simon Pinnington, store director at Specsavers Hounslow, said: ‘We’re astounded by the generosity of the local community and would like to personally thank them for their support with the charity over the last 20 years.
‘We’re now on our way to our next collection milestone and are continuing to urge anyone with an old pair of glasses to donate them at the store.’
