Hounslow optician accepted on Pathway, a 24-week programme to train staff to become a store director
Opticians in Hounslow are celebrating the success of one of their fellow colleagues who has had quite the journey to the top.
Embarking on an optical career from a young age
Twenty-seven year old Sim Gujral, who lives in Hounslow, started his career in optics when he joined the Specsavers Hounslow team at the age of 15 to undertake a work experience placement.
Having impressed directors Simon Pinnington and Ranna Rai, who still run the store today, he joined the team on a part-time basis while he was still studying at Isleworth and Syon School. Sim then went on to study an Ophthalmic Dispensing Diploma at City and Islington College when he was 17.
Climbing the ladder
After studying the three-year course, Sim was promoted to store manager at only 21 years old and has been working hard ever since. And that hard work has paid off as Sim has recently been accepted onto the Specsavers Pathway course, a 24-week programme to train staff to become a store director.
He said: ‘I’ve had a brilliant time with the team in Hounslow and they feel more like a family now than work colleagues.
‘I’m delighted to have been accepted onto the Pathway course. I wouldn’t have been able to get here without on-going support from Simon, Ranna and my other colleagues so I’d like to thank them for their help along the way.
‘I hope I’ve set a good example to other young people who might be considering a career in optics – it’s been quite a journey but one that I wouldn’t change for the world.’
